NOGA AMBULANCE UPGRADES WITH NEW STATE-OF-THE-ART CARDIAC TECHNOLOGY

New Castle, PA- Cardiac patients in Lawrence County now have better heart monitoring technology at their disposal. Noga Ambulance Service has replaced all of their cardiac monitors with nine new Zoll Cardiac Monitors. These new monitors feature capabilities that older monitors do not, which enable paramedics early detection of a cardiac event, such as a heart attack.

Much like the older heart monitors, these monitors have the standard EKG (Electrocardiogram) monitoring, an external pacemaker and defibrillation capabilities. However, the new monitors are capable of providing a hospital quality 12 Lead EKG, giving the paramedic a better perception of what is going on with a person’s heart. A copy of this EKG can be transmitted to an emergency room physician before the ambulance arrives at the hospital.

The ER physician will have a better understanding of the type of care this patient will need and it will cut down on the time the heart attack victim spends in the ER. Heart attack victim’s chances of survival are higher the sooner their heart or arteries can be repaired in an operating room.

In addition to the better EKG Monitoring, these new heart monitors use non-invasive blood pressure monitoring and pulse oximetry, which measures the oxygenation of a person’s blood. Each monitor also has end-tidal carbon dioxide (ETCO2) measuring capabilities. This measurement is required to assure proper oxygenation and life status of a patient that has an endotracheal tube in place. The Department of Health is looking to make it mandatory for an Advanced Life Support ambulance to have the ETCO2 capability. Noga Ambulance has already taken that step to ensure proper treatment of cardiac patients.
