History
In 1977 J. Russell Noga and his wife Emmalou with the purchase of a Cadillac Highboy began offering Ambulance transportation out of Noga Funeral Home at 1142 South Mill Street, currently referred to as Station 10.
A service that since 1949 had been offered by most funeral directors using a regular funeral home hearse.
Even at this time the most sought after crew member was the one who could drive the “Caddy” the fastest to the hospital. Pre-hospital life saving equipment was primitive at best and your best chance of surviving any emergency was getting to the hospital.
With the improvement of pre-hospital equipment and the introduction of a van style ambulance patient began to receive treatment enroute to the hospital.
While Paramedics were introduced in the City of Pittsburgh in the mid 1970’s we were not fortunate enough to have them until almost a decade later.
In 1984 the first Noga Ambulance Paramedic took to the street toting a big black box that would make even Johnny and Roy proud. |
In 1989 the Noga’s recognized the growth in the northern end of the county and opened the location we know today as Station 20 on Wilmington Road in Neshannock Township.
In addition to ambulance crews, this building serves as offices for our Operational Personnel, Dispatch Center, and Billing & Support Staff.
As demand for the service provided by Noga Ambulance continued to grow our location at 171 Portersville Road was opened in 1994. Municipalities located in the southern end of Lawrence and northern Beaver Counties are serviced by this station. This location includes housing for two ambulances, crew and is referred to as Station 30.
We recently opened our newest station in Union Township to serve the Midwest and Southwest regions of Lawrence County. This location also includes housing for two ambulances and is referred to as Station 40.
Over 30 years have passed since our humble beginning in 1977 to our current staff of over 90 dedicated employees operating Twelve Ambulances, Seven Wheelchair Vans, Three Support Vehicles and One Rehab Trailer providing service to every municipality in Lawrence County without any public financial support. |
